Week One: Brooklyn Bound!

PR & Fashion. I'm going to be honest and say that before going into this internship, I knew nothing about both.

As far as "Office Politics" go, my boss is pretty chill. For part of the week I work at her kitchen table next to her assistant/associate. They are both hardworkers and very efficient, but also very kind and helpful. So far, the work environment at her home is great. We get a lot done, but it feels very relaxed and non-stressful. They both dress fashionably and pretty casual. Jeans and a cute top.
For the other half of the week, I go down to Manhattan to the office. My boss, who lives a few blocks away from me, met me at my sister's apartment and we took the Metro to the office. (I should probably mention that my boss is also my sister's best friend.)

The girls in the office also dress fashionable, casual. Their dress makes it obvious that they work in the world of fashion. And they make sure to wear the brands they are promoting. Holding true to what I would have imagined, the workplace was not very diverse. This office has a lot of white walls and a lot of white women. All female, young twenties-30s. From the people I met, everyone was White or Asian. So as a white, female, 20-something, who loves to accessorize, I don't think my demographic will stand out too much.

Overall, this first week has been a dream. For someone who came into this feeling anxious about 1,000 unknowns, I feel so relieved knowing that I have a great boss who plans on showing me the ropes. Plus, I'm living in Brooklyn with my sister and her adorable 2-year old, so that's cool too.

  1. My internship is pretty similar when it comes to casual dress, makes life a little bit easier! And it's really awesome to have a more laid back atmosphere too. Sounds like Brooklyn will be showing you a great time this summer!

  2. My internship is also pretty similar when it comes to the laid back environment at a fashion company. Sounds like you are really loving it so far! Can't wait to read more about what tasks you're set out to do in the future.

  3. This sounds like a very good first internship because of the laid back environment. It definitely helps to feel more comfortable with the people around you because offices can be pretty intimidating! Hope you are enjoying it since this post!
