This week at my internship was the most fun one yet. First off, I got to sit in on a meeting with the Development team. This team does pretty much what you think it might do, but since I signed a Work for Hire form before working at SF, I cannot divulge what exactly was said. However, the general idea is that what each network wants is discussed and the current shows in or out of production are also discussed. It was one of the most interesting things to learn about, but at the end of the meeting, I was sent back to do more research, which is tedious and difficult. However, the rest of the week would prove to be much more fun.

Today, I got to actually go out on shoot and hold the boom mic and set up lights. It was a really cool shoot, and since I'm not sure if it's confidential or not, I won't post any pictures. However, I did learn a lot and was able to do a lot of hands on learning, which is why I took the internship in the first place. It was great to learn about the best way to gather "wild sound" (sound that will be used throughout the piece, usually diegetic) and "b-roll" (footage that will be dubbed over with a voiceover or just action shots). I hope in the future I will be able to go out to more shoots and eventually have input on the direction of photography and cinematography.

  1. This sounds like a great opportunity for what you wanted to achieve this summer! It seems that this type of internship is the best way to learn more about production because you get to see the development first-hand. Like you said in the beginning, it seems that all of our internships have good and bad days, like being on set versus having to research all day. However, I bet as you learn more you will be given more entertaining tasks!
