Hi Guys,
This summer I am interning for Cumulus Radio in New York and am working as a part of their marketing and promotions team. The structure of the internship consists of office days and street days. On office days (it is pretty self explanatory) I work in the office dealing with contests, prizes (such as tickets) and other paperwork. On street days, I get to go to promotional events for one of the three radio stations (NASH FM, PLJ, and WABC). I had my first day of work on Monday, which was an office day. I learned how to set up at the promotional events, unpacked and folded new merchandise, and got to know my way around the office. It was awesome getting to walk around and see where the stations broadcast from and all of the technology behind it. That day I also learned how the promotions team organizes all of the contests and contest winners, and was able to call a few winners to discuss their prizes and mail out ticket prizes. I also did my first coffee run, by which I was challenged by carrying six coffees back to the office! The second time I worked was Thursday night, when I had my first street appearance (as they call them). We went to Cadillac Cantina, which is a bar in Hoboken and were representing NASH FM, the country station in our office. It was surprisingly a blast; we had a few games that people could play to win prizes and raffled off Zac Brown Band tickets. It was so fascinating to talk to people who were both huge fans of the station, and others who have never listened before. It was amazing to actually see the impact that these events have on the success of the station. Tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday I will be working at the PLJ booth at the 9th Avenue International Food Festival in NYC. I am very excited and can't wait to learn more.
Wow the street days sound like a lot of fun! That is nice that you get a mix of days in and out of the office. I don't think you will get bored. Do you get to work independently most of the time or do you work closely with a supervisor or group of people?
ReplyDeleteI get to work mostly along side the promotions team and street team, all full of young, energetic people!

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat experience you seem to be having. It sounds like they are letting you learn about many different aspects of the company. Such a broad experience will probably be valuable in the future. Are you interested in marketing and promotions, or what made you want to apply for this internship?
ReplyDeleteYes, I am interested in pursuing marketing at the moment, so I will see how much I like this experience! I also applied because I am a huge music fan :)
DeleteThis sounds awesome! I think it's so interesting that you get to experience two different kinds of work days, should make the experience more unique. It also sounds like you are learning a lot about a business you probably didn't know a lot about before. Can't wait to follow your progress!
