Executive Speaker Series

Throughout the summer the interns at Cardinal Health have had the opportunity to hear from a variety of executives during the speaker series that is put on by College Relations.  Each of the sessions is one hour long and consists of different executives talking about their background, their role within the company, different trends they are seeing in healthcare, as well as answer any questions that we might have.  So far we have had the opportunity to hear from the Chief Executive Officer of the whole company, the Chief Executive Officer from the pharmacy segment, the Chief Executive Officer of the medical segment, the Chief Financial Officer, the Chief Customer Officer, the Chief Human Relations Officer, the Executive Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development, and the Chief Information Officer.  All of these individuals bring different insights and areas of expertise to the company and it is interesting to hear their perspective on a variety of topics.

Many of these sessions have included the executive giving different pieces of advise to the interns about how to be successful in the business world.  Some of my favorite pieces of advice include:

-Treat people the way you want to be treated
-If you are going to go back to school to get your MBA, go full time
-Always have a passion to learn
-Ask questions in an interview
-If you don't like your internship at least know what you learned from it
-Know a little bit about everything
-People fail when they are not self-aware
-Having a sense of curiosity is the key to success
-Be open to growth through relocation and lateral movements within a company
-Write down what your Leadership Principles are and compare yourself to them weekly
-Have fun

  1. It's pretty cool that you get to have a speaker series. I have found those immensely useful at my internship as well. You get to hear from professionals in the field and their advice can be very motivating.
