It was fireworks night, but this was unexpected. |
Tomorrow at this time, I'll be driving back to Michigan.
If I were CEO for a day, I'd update the building's security system so you don't have to walk out the same door you came in. It's no fun trying to exit through the sky walk to the garage and realizing you can't leave the Sun because, in the morning, you entered through the front door.
If I were CEO, I'd invest in some newer computers, because nothing proves newspapers are a thing of the past more than writers clattering on keyboards and staring at monitors that have "Microsoft Office 97" stickers still attached.
If I were CEO, I'd probably pay the interns, too.
In all seriousness, though, it's been a great summer. The people here are great, and I learned a lot from the experience. At the same time, I miss Ann Arbor and I can't wait to get back.
One of the highlights was interviewing Dariel Alvarez in Spanish and writing a feature on him. Alvarez defected from Cuba in 2012 and is a valued prospect, and I got the story because I could speak the language. Plus, last week, I went out to Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, where the baseball game was interrupted by a crazy lightning storm.
As a parting gift, one of the baseball reporters gave me a book called Beyond the Game by Gary Smith, and I look forward to reading it with what's left of our break
.
Thanks for reading all summer!
It sounds like you've had a very interesting summer at the Baltimore Sun! That is really cool that you were able to interview because of your language skills. It seems like they gave you a good amount of responsibility as an intern.
