Midpoint

As I’m reaching the midpoint of my summer, I have found that I feel very comfortable in my internship. When asked what I can do to improve, my coworkers are always very complimentary of me. They commend me on the work I do and the way I manage the projects and divide my day. I take my internship very seriously, which I think is shown through the way I work. Occasionally, I will receive several messages around the same time over Gmail from multiple colleagues asking me to work on different projects. This can be overwhelming, for they sometimes will not realize if I am already working on a large project for somebody else. I feel like I cannot say “No, I’m too busy” and turn down a project, so there have been days where I’ve been stressed about with the amount of work I need to do.  However, I have found that if I just tell that I’m swamped rather than taking on added projects, they will understand and can even hold off giving me a new project until I finish what I am working on.

Throughout the summer, I have been spending a majority of my time working on getting coverage for an event that is occurring in September. I love this project because it is almost my own; I began working on it from the very beginning and get to see every step. So far, the results have been great. However, it is sometimes difficult to manage this project when others are constantly being thrown in the middle of it. With such a long-term, ongoing project, I was expecting this, for I knew I would still have to do other tasks. Because of this I have learned to manage my time, creating and sticking to a plan that helps me stay organized.

  1. It is great that you feel so comfortable in your internship and have learned the ways to deal with the amount of work you must get done. I think it is best, like you have decided, to do well on one project at a time rather than try and do too many at once and having each be simply average. It is great that you have been able to see the results for each step of your project, I am sure you have seen much progress along the way.

  2. I definitely know the feeling of being a little overwhelmed with tasks set in front of me! It's awesome to have a lo to work on, however, it can be a bit daunting at times! How do you tell them when you feel a little overwhelmed? It can be a little tough to say this to co-workers!
