Post #2: Elvis Duran and the Morning Show

My first two weeks at Elvis Duran and the Morning Show were mainly spent watching, taking notes, and being taught by the “veteran” interns how to use the editing system. During breaks, cast members of the show such as Danielle, Bethany, Greg T., Skeery Jones, etc. will come into the back studio and record commercials and liners sent to us by the affiliate stations. Since there are about 75+ stations that air the morning show, there is always a job to be done. Everyone is really friendly and able to laugh at themselves when they make mistakes. The other interns as well as Ronnie, the production manager, have been very helpful through my adaptation and learning process. I am getting significantly more comfortable with the editing system, but I still have a lot to learn!

My job also entails answering the phone during contests. I have to pick up the lines in order and count out loud until I reach caller 100. Depending on the contest, either I tell the caller that they won or Ronnie will pick up the phone in his studio to record their celebratory audio. Sometimes I have to deal with demanding callers or angry fans, but Carla Marie, one of the show’s producers, has been very instructive in these scenarios. When I don’t know how to handle a specific caller, I will politely put them on hold and ask her for advice. She will tell me the answers to questions I don’t know or will provide me with an appropriate response to an irate caller.

This internship has been a lot of difficult work, but it has also been extremely rewarding! There are always celebrities walking in and out of the studio for interviews and appearances and the environment is always relaxed but upbeat. All of the interns are treated as integral parts of the show and a lot of times our comments and opinions are used as material!

  1. This sounds like a great opportunity! I know I listen to Elvis Duran on the way into my internship in the morning and I, admittedly and ignorantly, had no idea that over 75 stations listen to the show.... oops. But it's great that you've been exposed to so much already and are treated like a part of the team all while getting to do something that people all across the country listen to.

  2. Your internship sounds really cool and like a lot of fun! I can't believe you work with all of these well-known people and get to see celebrities in your office. In my second week as an intern I was still learning the ropes as well so I definitely know how you feel. It is nice that you have a lot of people to help you out and that the workplace is relaxed. As you get used to the environment it becomes easier each day. Enjoy!

  3. I can not be believe you're interning at Elvis Duran and the Morning Show! I could be more jealous of you! That's such an amazing and rewarding experience. You're so lucky that even though you're interning at a small radio show you still are treated as an integral part of the show. I listen all the time so maybe the material/comments I listen to are yours!
