As I continue on my summer journey through F-Factor I learn more and more everyday about the environment and the field of nutrition. I have certainly changed my perspective because I had always aspired to be a nutritionist yet when it came time I chose to major in communications and leave nutrition behind because I didn't believe it was an option. I have been completing tasks such as dietary analysis, where I figure out the amount of protein, calories, fiber, nutrients and more that the clients are eating and analyze the information to find what the client needs more or less of in their diet to lose weight and get healthier. As I complete more and more analyses I learn a great deal about others health and my own. I have learned portion sizes and necessary nutrients for healthy heart and overall body, which depends on the weight, height, sex, and lifestyle of the client. I have finally found a field where each day there is always something new, each client needs different help depending on their personal goals and needs. Therefore I believe to have found the path I want to head down. Although I did not think it was possible to study nutrition at Michigan because I wasn't able to major in it, I have learned that I can take science classes and go to graduate school in order to become who I want to become! F-Factor has opened my eyes to new possibilities and aspirations!
This sounds like a great experience and I am glad this internship helped you learn more about yourself and others!
ReplyDeleteSince I am interested in combining lifestyle (specifically food/health) and communications, I also thought about nutrition as a path as well. It's great you were able to find an opportunity to do something you love when you thought the door was closed!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really interesting. Even if you don't go directly into nutrition, it seems like you're getting a lot of experience (and learning information that is great to know)!
ReplyDeleteIts so interesting that you were able to find a field where each day there is always something new. It's also great that even though you aren't able to major in nutrition you're still finding ways to do what you love throughout the summer and school year.
