Week 4: Changing Perspectives

Throughout my time interning at Entertainment Tonight, I have learned a great deal about the entertainment news and television industries. Prior to starting my internship, my only experience with this genre was watching shows like Entertainment Tonight and E News. Now, after 4 weeks, I have not only become more knowledgeable, but I have also made important connections with people that will benefit me in the future. Since my first day, almost everyone has made me feel comfortable and part of the team even though I only an intern. I've had the opportunity to interact with stage managers, producers at different levels, PAs, crew members, and even talent (Talent is what they call anyone who appears on camera). Because of these interactions, I have observed and learned from the dynamic between the different components of the show. Each component melds together to create a final product. Even if a segment is only 30 seconds, the amount of time and effort that goes into it is shocking. I now know about pretapes, breaking news, and how to produce stories in a manner that the audience will be interested in. This past week, the producer I am working with has aired anniversary segments of Forrest Gump and Do the Right Thing. I was able to contribute to these segments by researching and helping to book Michael Conner Humphreys as well as finding the Academy's event honoring Do The Right Thing. I have also helped with shoots on the lot, like interviews with the ET Online Editor and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.

Looking forward, I still have about 6 more weeks of this internship. This week I will be attending the premiere of the movie "Sex Tape" and I will also go to a screening and press junket for the movie "The Hundred-Foot Journey". Thus, I will be able to interact with host Rob Marciano, producer Bonnie Tiegel and Andy Reyes, as well as the stars of the films. Going on shoots is one of my favorite parts

  1. I'm interning at a magazine, and I see a lot of similarities between the work it takes to put a completed magazine together and to complete a television program! Good luck with the next few weeks of your internship!

  2. So jealous of all your perks! Making connections is definitely one of the most valuable parts of an internship I think and I know yours will be so beneficial to you in the future. Good luck!
