#5 Overcoming Obstacles

Working for the fashion industry at times can be very demanding. Although I have only had limited experience, I have noticed that all things must be done at a dead-line. When working with other interns, one intern's mistakes are all the intern's mistakes. For example, this past week when reviewing our inventory, one of the interns mistakenly placed some of the apparel in the incorrect area. This makes things more difficult when trying to make sure all items are accounted for.

My manager confronted me about the issue of missing apparel and luckily we discovered that it was simply misplaced but because I am only an intern I had to apologize for the mistake of another. Although we all mess up sometimes, I now realized that it is a great chain reaction when someone makes a simple mistake. Whether it is labeling apparel, or simply placing it in the back stock area, all things must be done in a particular order to insure that all things are running smoothly.

After experiencing this, I have learned to pay more attention when I am doing things. They may seem to be boring and unimportant at the time, but it is truly important not to rush and to pay attention to the things you are doing.

  1. I found too that there was so much more work in apparel that goes on behind the scenes than I realized, and also how important it is to make sure the little things are right! Inventory is boring but also important.
