If I was CEO for a day there really
aren’t many things I would change. What I would fix, however, is how the
interns worked. For starters, I would create an internship program in general.
I loved working with as many co interns as I had; these girls came from all
over with such different backgrounds and I truly learned a lot from each of
them. However, in an office of only 5 or 6 employees, 7 or 8 interns was just a
bit excessive. At times, there wasn’t even enough room in the office for some
us and we had to sit on the floor! So for that purpose I would cut down the
number of interns. In addition, I would create a sort of schedule for them as
well. I guess it was partly because
there were so many of us, but on multiple occasions we as the interns had to
constantly ask what could be done around the office. While I understand this is
necessary, if we were given some sort of task list in the beginning of the day
we could be more independent and less of an annoyance to the employees. Other
than this, the company was great and ran very smoothly-not much I would change!
The same thing happened to me at my internship, Maddison! I wish there were either less interns or I was able to leave the office, because there wasn't enough for all of us to do!
ReplyDeleteI understand your desire to implement an internship program; I also wasn't part of a program, and it made my experience a little disorganized at times. There were other interns in my office, but they were either interns through their school or they set it up independently like me. While funding for those types of programs can be an issue, I think a program can really help with organization.
ReplyDeleteI understand exactly what you're talking about. Before my company moved to a bigger space, there were more interns than there were chairs. While they had us work from home, it was far from a perfect situation. Your ideas were great and I'm sure they would help this company!
