Throughout the entire
internship I would say that my biggest mentor was the head of the fashion
closet Jonathan Borge. Jonathan truly served as a great mentor because he was
constantly there to give advice, whether that advice was fashion related,
career related or just offering bits of knowledge to us. I knew the minute that
I walked into Marie Claire magazine and saw the 1,000 emails on his computer,
the interns surrounding him asking him hundreds of questions and the smile and
composure that remained on his face throughout the entire chaos, that he was
someone I would look up to. Some of the qualities that I admired the most about
Jonathan were how he never failed to crack a joke during some of the most
stressful trunk packing sessions, he worked extremely hard and told us how he
moved to New York without even having a job lined up and now he is working at
Marie Claire Magazine as the head fashion closet assistant. My favorite memory
I will have of Jonathan is right before I ended my internship he offered me
some of the most important pieces of advise that he has found over the years
because he says his end goal is to help me be successful. One of the biggest
pieces of advise that Jonathan offered me was staying in touch with all of the
people I met this summer, interns, Editors and even my roommates. He also
reiterated to me the importance of staying in touch with editors specifically
because they are constantly getting new jobs and with the fashion industry
being so small, there is always a connection. I really appreciated hearing this
in such a competitive world and will never forget to keep in touch with
Jonathan, a true mentor.
