Overcoming Obstacles

My internship in social media for Today’s Business has been going very well so far, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been challenges along the way.

One of my more difficult tasks each week has been finding people to whom I could speak as my client on Twitter. One of my clients is a doctor and people don’t really tweet about issues associated with that topic often. It’s required me to, as the cliche says, “think outside the box” to find accounts to whom I can talk. It’s a weekly challenge. Since this doctor treats cancer I’ve been finding organizations that support cancer research and tweeting support for people with cancer. When a reply comes though thanking you for your support, that makes it worth the effort.

I’ve received a lot of feedback in my time in the office so far, mostly with the edits I receive on my Facebook and Twitter posts. Each of my posts for those platforms go through a series of edits. Seeing a series of posts come back with a lot red can be a little disorienting, but each of the notes is constructive and has helped me write content that has better interaction than what I originally had.

This internship has taught me a lot about writing for an Internet audience and researching possible customers for a client so far! I can’t wait to see what I learn during the rest of my time on the job!
