As the weeks have pasts I have met many new people during my internship. I have met people working on the same campaign at campaign meetings and events. At the Kalamazoo Democratic headquarters, I have met people running for different offices and their campaign workers. I even met the one of the gentlemen that is running against my candidate (he seems really nice, even though I see him as the enemy). Everyone that I have met has been extremely nice and helpful. There doesn’t seem to be any competitiveness and backstabbing that you see on TV shows about politics. (It is no House of Cards, that’s for sure!)
When looking for people that could serve as possible mentors, I see the candidate, Pamela, as being one of the best mentors I could have. We share many of the same political ideals and support the same issues. She is someone who stands up for what she believes in and goes for it and I admire that a lot.
I would love to get a chance to talk to the people working on other campaigns, because most of them are out of college and are doing this as a job. Unfortunately, as the primary is fast approaching everyone is very busy canvassing, knocking on doors, and good ole fashion campaigning. I hope during the course of the internship I am able to chat with them some more.
Next week I start knocking on doors, so wish me luck!
Here is an artcle on Mlive about my candidate!
I think it's really awesome that you are getting to meet so many people, especially those who are so diverse! Sounds like you have the potential to learn a lot from your peers. I look forward to reading more!
