Week 3: Overcoming My First Big Task

So far my experience at Channel V Media has been extremely rewarding, but nonetheless challenging. Because the company is so small and there are only four interns we are given multiple responsibilities, tasks, and clients to work with at once.

At the beginning of this week I was given a new task for one of our clients, NOHOdrink. NOHO Gold is their premium lifestyle beverage and universal cocktail mixer, which is filled with vitamins and supplements that keep your body from feeling the full effects of a hangover. Usually when it comes to pitch writing my mentor will give me the topic of the pitch and the ideas she expects me to put in my own words. This week, they made each intern come up with their own pitch for the client. Our task was to come up with a new pitching angle for NOHO Gold. In other words, any idea that could be used to generate buzz for the company and/or product.

It's safe to say I was overwhelmed and stumped at first.

Long story short because of the scope of this task I thought I would completely plummet, but it turns out they loved my pitch! I decided to pitch the idea of targeting cocktail/ beverage blogs, and beverage/ food magazines and create NOHO Gold infused cocktails that were both July 4th and World Cup themed. Some examples of the July 4th drink names I came up with are The American Dream, The Firecracker, and Berry United. Because my employers liked the idea I am now sending out the pitches to a select group of bloggers, editors, and reporters! On top of all that, the companies mixologist was able to make the NOHO Gold inspired July 4th drinks come to life. I am so happy I was given this opportunity. I hope I can continue to strengthen my pitch writing and PR skills this summer.

  1. That's great that your work is coming to life even as just an intern! It seems like you are getting a lot of great real world PR and pitch writing experience which will definitely come in handy from here forward. This alone would be a great thing to talk about in upcoming interviews and future internship opportunities. Hope you get to do more tasks just like this!

  3. That's so cool that they're actually using your ideas! While that does seem like a difficult task, it's great that you're being given opportunities to expand on your skills and creativity. Congratulations on your successful input, I hope you're given more opportunities to prove yourself throughout the rest of your internship.
