This week was a disaster.
So I went into FedEx to print and ship and do all the usual intern-y things. It was extremely stressful in there and I was completely overwhelmed, but I was glad because it was a Thursday and I get to go home to my boyfriend & sister waiting for me.
As I get into the apartment, I have some missed calls and texts from my boss asking where her hard-drive is. I looked everywhere and it was MIA. This is New York; I was sure it got swiped. But this wasn't just a flash drive. This had her social security number, her bank statements, contact lists, her marriage license and many other files. So for anyone trying to steal her identity, they hit the jackpot.
I felt terrible for losing it/not guarding it properly so that it got stolen. So here I was excited that my internship was going well, that she was talking me up to people and that my boyfriend was in NY. But now this cast a shadow over it all. My boss was texting me non-stop, and I was calling FedEx to get their surveillance footage. I also went back into the store about 5 times to try to handle things in person.
So I ended up filing a police report for her, with the hard-drive still floating around NY somewhere. And she is on vacation in Greece, so now I'm actually finishing my internship with her on vacation after this whole missing hard-drive ordeal. Hoping that this bridge is not burned.
(I don't really have any work-related photos from this week, so here's a flashback to last week for some photos of Michael Nelson's Resort Preview!)

Although this is a really sticky situation, it sounds as if you handled it really well!! You took all the right steps and tried your best. I hope everything works out!
ReplyDeleteWow! I totally feel your pain, but sounds like you really took a positive turn with this one and are finding your way out of this bad situation! good luck, and I hope you track down the hardrive!!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that even though you got caught up in a bad situation, you were able to think it through with the right attitude. It is always good to take responsibility for your actions, and to be honest.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how you were feeling during this situation, but you handled it perfectly! I hope if I'm ever in a situation like yours I am able to pull myself together and come up with a solution.
ReplyDeleteYeah, you definitely did everything that you could! You kept your composure and filed a police report. I hope your boss is understanding, as this sort of thing is always liable to occur when handling someone else's files like that.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm pretty sure I know you from Spanish 232, glad to see you're interning this summer as well!
I hope this situation is resolved and the rest of your summer goes smoothly.
