With the chaotic start of my
internship, I finally have time to publish my first post. I suppose the first
lesson I’ve learned is perfectly applicable to this post: this industry simply
does not allow enough time for perfection. As much as I want to finesse this
post until it is my best writing, at a certain point it is necessary to put
something instead of nothing down and embrace what you learn from there.
My first day at WDIV was full of
experiences to delve into. The station functions straight out of the bustling
newsroom. From my internship interview
to the desk I work from everyday, the newsroom is truly the hub and heart of
Channel 4. The constant chaos and information circulating and enveloping each
employee is exhilarating. The anchors and reporters appear effortless in their
impeccable dress sense, polished and poised demeanor and honed professionalism.
The producers, and video journalist, Michelle, vary from casual to more formal
dress depending on their personal preference. Each person seems perfectly
hand-picked for their job, as I’m sure they were.
The show I am working on is the 11
am live morning show called “Live in the D”. It is hosted by Karen Drew and Guy
Gordon and covers local and national news, often focusing on the cultural
intersections of food, lifestyle and inspiring personal stories in Detroit. It
is an incredibly diverse, flexible and constantly fascinating show that manages
to traverse the most delicately heart-wrenching stories to breaking news to
uplifting, inspiring stores of personal successes. So far, this introduction to
the station, it’s employees and my role at WDIV has surpasses my highest expectations.

WOW!! Sounds like a great experience, I always thought life inside a TV Studio would be laid back and relaxed but guess I was wrong. Your experience shows that it is a high-pressure bustling atmosphere in there, cool!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome! How did you come across this internship? I feel like so many people leave Michigan to pursue opportunities like this, but it is great you found this! What kinds of things do you think you will be doing?
